tourist

The poster to the right pretty well sums up this movie . . . Johnny Depp with a look of total indifference that he carries all the way through this vapid film, and what you see there of Angelina Jolie is what you get . . . her, in all of her doe-eyed perfectly made up self, propelling this sleep-inducing anti-thriller along its weak story line with slinky costumes and the same old getaways that we've seen again and again, slipping into the just-closing doors of the Paris Metro just in time to elude her pursuers.

And even though the brief scenes of the French high-speed train are a delight, as are the aerial views of Venice, they can't save this hollow screenplay on its chase to nowhere, replete with poorly manufactured suspense and a villain straight out of the worst of 007. Add to this a second-rate music score, and the sum total is pitiful.

So, you have to be content with the interiors of one of Venice's finer hotels, and the speedboat getaways through the canals, because that's all you will remember for a day or two about The Tourist.
